Wisdom
teeth, or 3rd
molars, are the molar teeth in the
most posterior region of your mouth. Most
people have a total of four wisdom teeth;
however, some individuals are born
without or with extra wisdom teeth.
Unfortunately,
the majority of people today do not have enough room in their jaws to
accommodate the eruption of wisdom teeth. Because
of this, wisdom teeth can become buried
under the gums and bone
at unhealthy angles that can cause damage to the teeth and bone around
them. Also, due their position, wisdom
teeth are difficult to access while brushing and flossing, which
typically
leads to cavities and gum disease around these teeth.
If
wisdom
teeth are found to be causing problems, your dentist will most likely
recommend
that they be removed. Wisdom teeth
removal is usually performed with sedation in order to give you the
most
comfortable experience.
The
first
step towards having wisdom teeth removed is a consultation at our
office.
